Quick Description: A marker honoring Minden's history as an important railroad terminus.
Signed: No -- Historically, this marker was never signed.
NOTES: Again, you might need a second set of eyes to spot this little marker! #130 is located along the north side of US 395, and makes itself surprisingly hidden among Minden's townscape. Even after decades of driving into Minden/Gardnerville, I noticed this one only a few years ago. Like Gardnerville, traffic through Minden is reduced to 25MPH along Main Street, so slowing down to spot the marker is a bad idea. Here's the key: #130 is easiest to spot if you're headed northbound. Simply look to your right for the Holiday Lodge near Esmeralda Ave.
Full Description:
Exact description as reads ...
Minden, the seat of Douglas County since 1916, was named for a town in Westphalia, Germany, where the founder of the H.F. Dangberg Land and Live Stock Company was born in 1829. The company established Minden in 1905 to provide terminal facilities for the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, which was then extending a branch line southward from Carson City. The passenger and freight depot was situated at this point.
Principal promoter of the town and its related development was H.F. Dangberg, Jr., secretary of the company and son of the founder.
Trust me. Finding it is harder than it looks!
