Date Conquered: 4/13/08 Nearest Intersection: 4th St. Quick Description: A marker honoring the oldest building in Lincoln County. Signed: No -- Historically, this marker was never signed. NOTES: This pesky marker sits on 4th Street, just out of sight from Panaca's main drag (SR 319). The best way to conquer [182] Panaca Ward Chapel is to locate the LDS church -- largest structure in town. Once you do this, locate the mercantile and park in the empty lot to the right. The Ward Chapel sits directly behind the giant LDS church. My advice though: avoid coming here on a Sunday Morning. Panaca folks are not used to seeing outsiders, much less marker hunters with a camera! Full Description: Exact description as reads ... Oldest building in Lincoln County. Constructed in 1867-1868 of adobe from the swamps west of town. Built as a Mormon chapel, used also as a school and recreation hall, it is typical of the development in small Mormon pioneer communities in the Intermountain West during the mid-1800's. A tiny little house of worship on the edge of Utah ... er, Nevada! The vibe in Panaca gives off the impression of a bucolic Utah town.
