Location: 1

Accessibility: 2
Marker type: St (Mini)

Date Conquered: 4/13/08
Nearest Intersection: 4th St.
Quick Description: A marker honoring the oldest building in Lincoln County.
Signed: No -- Historically, this marker was never signed.

NOTES: This pesky marker sits just out of sight from Panaca's main drag (SR 319) on 4th street. The best way to conquer this one is by locating the LDS church (largest structure in town), then park at the mercantile. The Ward Chapel sits RIGHT behind the LDS church. My advice though: avoid coming here on Sunday Morning. Panaca folks are not used to seeing visitors, much less a marker hunter with a camera!

Full Description:
Exact description as reads.

This building, popularly known as the Panaca Co-op, was constructed of adobe in 1868, by the (Mormon) "Panaca Cooperative Mercantile Institution" comprising more than 100 stock holders—to meet barter, merchandising and marketing needs. Wagons from Salt Lake drawn by six-mule teams, carried stocks to, and produce from, Panaca and way stations.

A tiny little house of worship on the edge of Utah... er, Nevada!
The vibe in Panaca gives off the impression of a bucolic Utah town.
