Office escaped the 1875 fire to also become the home of John Mackay, "Boss" of the Big Bonanza, which made him the richest man in the Comstock (over $100,000,000). Mackay also founded the Postal Telegraph Co. The fine view of the Mackay Mansion from Flowery Street and the exceptional. Mackay's famous "100 mile view" was considered high class property. The bottom plaque is a newer version of #132, placed at the front door of the mansion. #132 and #196 are the only two markers in the system with duplicate plaques.
